This is a selection of Jane's drawings and paintings relating to an on-going project examining changes in the way we communicate with each other.
Social media has exploded in the 21st Century and this type of remote connectivity has been linked to a number of mental health issues. Using anthropological and social studies about human communication, Jane is seeking to visually explore - pictorially - the current complexity of communication, as a way of understanding the current world our brains are trying to adapt to and how we are gradually becoming disconnected with the physical world around us.
" Using 'Dunbar's Number' as a guide to how many connections our brains can cope with, together with sociological theories that we group in threes, what I am trying to achieve is a pictorial image of how complex our current connectivity has become. I am also seeking to visually express the consequent disconnect with the physical world around us . Working with different, theoretical group sizes, I use a rules and random approach as this reflects the way we build connections with people as we travel through life."
